Makeup Can Remove Wrinkles – Myth or Fact?
- Oct 26, 2021
With the lockdown slapping us with an abundant amount of time we have noticed more people starting a new skincare routine. You might have noticed some positive results with the skin rejuvenation techniques that you employed but wrinkles can be hard to deal with. This makes people spend hours online trying to find the right routine or product that prevents or truly eliminates wrinkles. But is there a product that can achieve that? Let’s find out.
Makeup and Wrinkles
There is no skincare product or makeup product to date that is known to eliminate or remove wrinkles. Depending on the ingredients used in the anti-aging creams it would be possible to reduce the fine lines and wrinkles but never remove them completely.
Wrinkles are usually caused by cumulative sun damage and the natural breakdown of the skin structure with age. On the other hand, fine lines are the result of dryness. Most of the anti-aging creams simply hydrate the skin which plumps it out. By this, the fine lines disappear making your skin look better temporarily. But this does nothing to remove or reduce the wrinkles.
Topical retinoids are the only products that are known to have a considerable effect on wrinkles. They might be available under the name of “Retinol” or “Tretinoin” and they can be purchased over the counter. These creams are known to penetrate the skin and increase the turnover of the skin cells. As per studies, products containing topical retinoids have shown considerable improvement in treating acne, wrinkles, fine lines, and sun damage. But even topical retinoids do not possess the magical ability to fully reverse wrinkles.
Antioxidant creams containing vitamin C might help with wrinkles but these creams tend to destabilize quickly. Thus, it would be best if you purchase them from a trusted and well-known company.

Finding the Right Product and Routine
There is no perfect skincare routine or product that can avoid wrinkles and delay the aging process. By now, you would have known that different people have different skin types and thus the skincare routine that worked for your friend might not work for you.
Finding the right makeup product or skincare routine for your skin would involve a trial-and-error process. You can start with one product and give your skin some time to adapt to the product before trying another one. Also, wait for the results to show before shifting to another product. Usually, anti-aging products tend to take around six weeks to three months before showing noticeable results.
After finding the right product for your skin you might start to see the results. Your skin might look younger and this might tempt you to stop the products. But most anti-aging products like Tretinoin should be used regularly to maintain the results. If you suddenly stop the usage of the product, you might notice the wrinkles coming back. Thus, it is recommended you consult with your dermatologist before stopping a product.
Is There No Way to Get Rid of Wrinkles?
We have made it clear that there is no known makeup or skincare product that can get rid of your wrinkles completely but there are other ways. There are many cosmetic procedures that are known to offer impressive results. Most of these procedures are done in skin rejuvenation clinics but make sure you get them done by qualified professionals. Here are some of the most common anti-aging treatments that are recommended for getting rid of wrinkles.
Botox
Dermabrasion
Chemical peels
Laser skin resurfacing
Dermal fillers
With these procedures, you can see noticeable results and of late, an increasing number of people are getting these procedures done.
